We’ve all heard the buzz around Turmeric and how’s it’s the new magic superfood that can fix everything. Of course food like this does always go in cycles so next year we’re bound to have another “undiscovered” superfood which will heal the sick, cure the blind and generally create miracles. In particular, Turmeric Latte’s are popping up everywhere! This “golden milk” episode is going crazy.
Do I sound like a skeptic? I am somewhat of the buzz around these foods, as more often than not they’ve been included in cooking for generations. We hear about them when big companies appropriate them. Which is not to say the food itself isn’t amazing (like Turmeric). It’s just that we are clearly sold so much crappy processed food, that these foods seem like miracles when in fact they are REAL FOOD.
Turmeric has been used in Chinese and Indian medicine for thousands of years – and now we’re lucky to have the internet to give us all the fantastic health benefits* so that we can include it in our diet. But HOW? Ah, I have the answers for you there. Here’s 13 fun (and varied!) ways to include Turmeric in your diet. From Cakes to Ice Cream to main meals – I’ve got you covered. Sit back, relax and enjoy some inspiration. As always with my round-up’s – these recipes are ALL dairy-free 🙂
1. Curried Kumara Soup
This soup’s fantastic colour lends itself well to the inclusion of turmeric adding an even more vibrant pop of orange. I love this soup, its hearty and delicious and even Grandma approves!

2. Mango Chicken Lettuce Wraps
This is all very well and good, I hear you say, cakes and latte’s – but what about dinner? Lucky for us Brita experimented with Chicken, Mango’s and Turmeric and this meal looks absolutely fantastic. I’m currently negotiating with the chef to make this tonight…

3. Turmeric & Candied Ginger Ice Cream (Dairy-free)
These images caught my eye and I just knew they had to be in this round-up. Dairy-free Turmeric Ice Cream – YES PLEASE. Just look at that golden colour! Since it has Turmeric and ginger it must be healthy and I can probably just have it for breakfast – right??

4. Raw Vegan Ginger and Turmeric Cheesecakes
The combination of Ginger and Turmeric certainly is a popular one – clearly it follows that this recipe is healthy, so I’m totally having them for breakfast :p I love Raw Cheesecakes – although they can get complicated. This recipe is straightforward and user-friendly and the end result looks amazing.

5. Green Smoothie
This one doesn’t have the golden hue as it’s overridden by the green veggies, but the turmeric is in there! We prefer our turmeric fresh if we can get it (plus it’s prettier in photographs) and included in this morning smoothie adds a pop to your morning.

6. Turmeric Coconut Basmati Rice
I adore coconut rice, so the addition of turmeric to it is not so far fetched. This rice has a gorgeous golden colour and would be the perfect side dish for a good curried, or cooled with veggies for a rice salad!

The second I saw these photographs I knew I needed this soup in my life. Just look at those roasted chickpeas! And the coconut cream swirl! Its such a fantastic combination, with the health benefits of Turmeric and Ginger and the added protein from the nuts. This is another one I’m adding to my “bribe the chef” pile :p

8. Chickpeas in Turmeric Peanut Butter Curry
No round-up of Turmeric would be complete without a curry. Turmeric has been an essential curry ingredient for thousands of years. And… wait, there’s peanut butter in this? I’m ALL IN. We’ve been working on a chickpea curry but haven’t managed to get it just right yet – might need to take some inspiration from this, it looks divine!

9. Beef and Green Bean Rice
What I loved most about this dish was the look of that crunchy rice – doesn’t it look fantastic? There are a variety of spices included in this Persian meal, and Turmeric helps give it that gorgeous colour. Read the post too when you check out the recipe, I really enjoyed Bita’s writing.
